ANDROPAUSE (MALE MENOPAUSE)
††† The term andropause describes a condition in men when the production of testosterone begins to decrease. This usually occurs slowly so often times the resulting signs and symptoms are attributed to other problems. This can occur at any time in a manís life; it is not age related.†
††† Andropause can also occur from the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. In men, the ratio between testosterone and estrogen is heavily testosterone dominant. Though tetosterone production levels may be normal, if the body converts the testosterone to estrogen, the relative ratio between the two hormones narrows and the system is no longer testosterone dominant.
††† Both possibilities are involved with andropause.
Note: Statin and anti-fungal drugs reduce the production of testosterone.
